We recently spent the day at Green Meadows Petting Farm in East Troy, WI. Green Meadows was started in 1964 by the Keyes family when they converted their hog & cattle business into a pick-your-own produce farm. Most pick-your-own farms at the time excluded children so they decided to add some farm animals, and the petting zoo was formed.
Green Meadows is a great place for field trips, birthday parties, corporate events and family day trips. It is the perfect combination of fun and learning. You can take a self-guided tour but their incredibly friendly and informative staff offer guided tours as well.
Some of the fun things offered at Green Meadows Petting Farm include:
- Learning about and petting pigs, goats, donkeys, horses and more
- Milking a cow
- Pony rides
- Playing with kittens
- Multiple playgrounds and play areas
- Free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch in the Fall
Dates and times vary per season. The farm was open from 10am to 4pm the day that we visited. We arrived around 10:30am and left at 4pm and while we did most of the things there were to do we didn’t have time to do everything.
Now let’s talk prices. General admission will run you $13.75 per person, seniors are $11.75 per person and children one and under are free. With your general admission ticket you get admission to the farm, a ticket for a pony ride and a seat on the hayride. We had found a Groupon for this visit so we paid $17.00 for two people and Jack was free. While we had a great time I am not sure that I could pay $55.00 for a family of four to visit, especially if I had to buy lunch for everyone on top of it. But by having the Groupon and bringing our own lunch I found it to be a really good value.
The kids had such a good time. We visited while Dad was at work and we will definitely be going back and bringing Dad along. The kids really enjoyed the playgrounds and play areas. The pony rides and the hayride were also BIG hits. There were a ton of cars in the parking lot but with all the space and the sheer number of things to do it never felt crowded.
With a three-year-old we spent a fair amount of time in the bathroom and found them to be very clean and well taken care of.
We didn’t even get to the animal areas before lunch so that became the priority after lunch. These were the biggest hit of the day. The fact that the kids could get right in the pens with the animals and pet them, feed them and brush them was so fun for them. The pens were very clean and there were hand sanitizer stations outside every pen which made me VERY happy!
Being able to milk an actual cow was another highlight of the day. She was a very friendly cow and it was a great experience for the kids.
We packed lunches and really enjoyed the nice, clean, spacious picnic area. There is a wonderful playground right next to the picnic area which was the perfect place to let Soph expend some energy where I could see her but still sit with Jack while he finished his lunch.
Overall, we really enjoyed our day at Green Meadows Petting Farm. If you ever find yourself in the area and can find a Groupon please stop by and say hi to the animals for us.
Until next time!
